USA based ministry organizing foreign short term missions trips
DR. DON ORVIS founded Face to Face International in April 1996. He serves this unique ministry as President & CEO and works out of the headquarters office located in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Face to Face International is an interdenominational, evangelical mission which specializes in building world mission commitment by recruiting, preparing and leading short term ministry teams to various parts of the world. Face to Face assists Christian churches, schools and organizations with their short term needs.
DR. ORVIS, an ordained minister, speaks regularly in churches across the United States. In addition to interim pastorates and pulpit supply, he is a popular Bible and mission conference speaker with a unique sense of humor and a clear and powerful delivery. He regularly leads others to Jesus Christ. Churches and ministries often book him one or more years in advance. DR. ORVIS chairs the missions team at Scottsdale Bible Church, a church in Scottsdale, Arizona, of nearly 10,000 in attendance.
Before establishing Face to Face International, DR. ORVIS served Medical Ambassadors International, headquartered in Modesto, California, as North American Director for five years (1991-1996). During this time, he visited projects in Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
DR. ORVIS served Denver Seminary for 18 years (1973-1991). He was Dean of Students for eight years and Vice President of Development for ten years. During this time, he also served on the tenured faculty as Associate Professor of Evangelism. Student evaluations consistently demonstrated that he was a respected and well-liked professor. Students especially appreciated the fact that he modeled what he taught.
Previous to coming to Denver Seminary, DR. ORVIS ministered to secular college students for five years during the turbulent late ’60s and early ’70s.
In 1962, DR. ORVIS received his BS degree in math education from Castleton State College, Castleton, Vermont. He taught math for four years before completing his MA degree in secondary education from Arizona State University in 1968. His research thesis for the MA degree was Parent Attitudes Towards Modern Mathematics. In that same year, he earned the MRE degree from Denver Seminary. His research project at the Seminary was Campus Ministry: A Suggested Approach.
DR. ORVIS completed his Ed.D. degree in educational administration from Arizona State University in 1973. The title of his doctoral dissertation was Content Validation of the Revised INSTROTEACH Definition, which was a national study to determine the content validity definition of a competent volunteer church teacher.
DR. ORVIS co-authored and co-taught DIVIDEND MINISTRIES, a comprehensive financial seminar of Denver Seminary. He helped design and write the 120-page notebook used in the eight-hour seminar.
In 1983, DR. ORVIS graduated from the National Planned Giving Institute (NPGI) in Memphis, Tennessee. Since 1988, DR. ORVIS has held the special credential, Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), received as a result of extensive training, experience and ongoing success in fund raising. DR. ORVIS regularly consults for various Christian ministries.
DR. ORVIS was selected to Outstanding Young Men of America for 1970, Community Leaders and Noteworthy Americans for 1976, and Who’s Who in the West 1982-83. He was the recipient of several academic and athletic awards. While in college, he lettered all four years in soccer, basketball and baseball. For seven years, he served as chaplain for the Denver Zephyrs (triple A) Baseball Team. In addition, he served as chaplain for the Aurora (CO) Police Department for three years.
Over the years, DR. ORVIS has written and published numerous articles. In 1989, he co-authored an adult Bible study book entitled, Christianity in the Workplace: Your Faith on the Job.
Don and Nancy, a retired elementary teacher, have three grown children, are members of Scottsdale Bible Church in Scottsdale, Arizona, and reside in Tempe.
