Tim & Sherry Thomas
Awana Missionary
Ministering to the children of the U.S.A.
Awana missionaries assist churches in reaching boys and girls with the Gospel of Christ by introducing churches to the Awana program, training Awana leaders and other children's ministry workers and coordinating events throughout the region. Tim & Sherry Thomas are the new Awana missionaries serving the southern region of Wisconsin.
Tim was born in the Chicagoland area, where he was an Awana clubber for six years. Sherry was born in Huntsville, Alabama. They met and married in Pensacola, Florida in 1981. Later that same year they volunteered to be Awana leaders when their church started a new club.
They have lived in central Florida for the past 20 years where Tim was employed in the computer industry and Sherry worked as an interpreter for the Deaf and taught classes, while also home schooling their four children.
For 25 years they have served as Awana Leaders, Directors, Commanders, and Ministry Team Members. In the summer of 2004, they were asked to be the volunteer, interim missionaries for central Florida when the missionary resigned. During that year, they saw God leading them into full-time service as Awana missionaries.
The Thomas children have all been Awana clubbers, and the oldest three are Citation achievers.
David is 24 and lives in Orlando. He works full time and attends college part-time, pursuing a degree in engineering.
Wendy is 23. She is married and recently enlisted in the U.S. Army where she will study radiology.
Stephen is 20. He will be staying in Florida where he is very involved in the ministries of their sending church, Deltona Alliance Church.
Kyle is 15 and in 9th grade. He helps with the sound and PowerPoint for children’s church, and he is a Leader-in-Training in Awana.
As Awana missionaries the Thomas's share your passion to reach children and families in your community. In addition to “Reaching boys & girls with the gospel of Christ and training them to serve Him,” Awana missionaries work alongside local churches to:
Advocate children’s ministry by being a resource for pastors and church leaders
Start, train, and support local Awana clubs
Partner with the local church to ensure maximum outreach in the community
Recruit, train and mentor volunteers and lay leaders in local churches
Manage a team of volunteers that conducts Awana events
Sharpen the teaching and shepherding skills of the adults that work with children
