UW River Falls Campus Ministry
Meet Tim and Darcy:
Tim: Graduate of UW - River Falls, Ag-Business Major. IV Small Group leader while in college & after graduation, went back to family farm, but was called into ministry. Prior to attending seminary, Tim felt it beneficial to get some hands on experience. As such, he became an IV Staff worker at Platteville 2004-06, then joined River Falls staff for 2006-07 after he and Darcy were married in the summer of 2006. Tim hopes to enter Seminary at Bethel next fall. Email: tim_prince@ivstaff.org
Darcy: Graduate of UW – Platteville, Teaching. Active with IV at Platteville, and it was a time of tremendous growth. Her first teaching job was at the Baraboo Middle School as an 8th grade teacher, 2000 – 02 and loved it. Darcy was a part of WHBC during that time. Part of “the plan” was to do summer missions since teaching would allow that schedule, and the first summer was spent with a UW-P college group (including some WHBC students) in Romania. The call to college ministry deepened and she went out from this church into IVCF Staff training after the ’01-‘02 school year. She has been an IV Staff worker at UW-RF for 4 ½ years. Why Campus Ministry?
It is a very critical time of growth in a young adult’s life, often out on their own for the first time and making decisions that will set their life course. The “Marketplace of Ideas” is powerful for the Christian and non-Christian alike. Every professor is teaching from a particular world-view. Every student’s interaction with teachers and other students is affected by the student’s faith base, experiences, questions, doubts and strengths. Just how that plays out makes all the difference. Having good support and fellowship gives strength and a place to grow and sort out the deeper issues and questions. A campus organization has access a church doesn’t have, and has a student base to bridge into every part of student life.
There are many faithful campus organizations: Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC), IVCF, Navigators, others…Different approaches, similar focus on the basics of understanding and owning one’s own faith, personal growth, a faithful walk, winning others, and discipleship. At “Boo U”, Walnut Hill is involved with the Campus Crusade group, and Pastor Aaron has been an important encourager of that group of students. For a period of time, WHBC supported a CCC staff worker that was working by extension to encourage the start-up of that group. Other campus workers, some from our church family, have also been supported over the years. We were blessed by Darcy when she was here teaching and were blessed to be her family when she answered the calling. We are excited now to meet Tim as part of the ‘team’!
