Ministering to the people of Chicago, Illinois

Keith grew up in New Jersey and came to Chicago to attend Moody Bible Institute. He graduated from MBI in 1986. Debbie grew up in Michigan and also came to Chicago to attend Moody. She graduated in 1982, but is always sure to add that Keith is older. Keith has been with ICI since October of 1986, Debbie was a Children's Program Coordinator with ICI since 1982 until she "retired" to devote her time to raising the couple's four children. Renée is 17, Janelle is 16, Ian is 12 and Kayla is 10. Debbie home schools each of them. Keith and Debbie were married in 1988.

Keith's position is as ICI's Physical Properties Manager. Keith has the responsibility for all aspects of ICI's building and vehicle maintenance and improvement. Keith and his staff provide the following services to ICI: janitorial services, the tracking of common use supplies, maintain safety oriented record keeping, develop building and vehicle policies, provide driver training, do repairs and renovations, contract for major projects, provide facilities design input, outfit Summer Staff housing, assist other staff with their expertise in buildings and vehicles, provide road service in the event of vehicle breakdowns, consult in vehicle and facilities purchases, recruit and supervise volunteer work groups and skilled individuals, and try to anticipate and fulfill needs as they arise.

"Our goal", says Keith, "is to be the next best thing to invisible. If we're doing our job, people won't notice any problems since they won't be there to notice. Then they can do a better job reaching the kids and families of the neighborhood."

Keith and Debbie are also involved in ICI's camping ministry. Throughout the years they have supervised crafts, taught Bible lessons or coordinated outdoor experiences at ICI's Summer and Winter camps. They are also the campsite coordinators for ICI's annual trip to the Baraboo area. The 2003 trip is scheduled to be at Mirror Lake State park from June 13-15. We expect 80 campers to spend the weekend and are looking for volunteers from Walnut Hill who would like to be a part of our campsite crew.

In addition, they both serve in leadership at Community Free Church of Logan Square in their neighborhood. Debbie is the Deaconess of Fellowship and Sunday School Supervisor. Keith is the Chairman of the Elder Board and Adult Bible teacher. Together they are busy in all aspects of the church's ministry.

In all of their time in Chicago and at ICI they have continually seen God's grace at work in both big and little things. They have seen Him provide for their needs and even grant them some of their wants. They have known the blessings of family and have been able to share those blessings with others. They have been able to use their Spiritual gifts and natural abilities to shine His light in often-dark places. They have known His physical protection in sometimes trying circumstances. What, to others, may seem dangerous is, to them, routine, but they can never take for granted God's protection and provision. God may not always greet their lives with spectacular answers to prayer, but He continues to take care of them as they live day-to-day in His will.

Prayer request:  Keith's step-father is very ill with an aggressive cancer. He is given at the outside 18 months. We are praying for his salvation, as well as that of Keith's mom. Also, if his cancer proves fatal, there will be some major decisions to be made by Keith's family regarding his Mom and her home.
